For all intents and purposes, the morning is quite a jarring time for comedy. Alex Prescot’s Cosy may just be the exception that proves the rule, providing the blueprint for how stand-up can still be enjoyable before midday as long as it follows the same general rules of a children's show; light, wholesome and plenty of music.
UNIVERSAL PICTURES CONTENT GROUP ACQUIRES UK THEATRICAL RIGHTS TO SIX THE MUSICAL LIVE!
Universal Pictures Content Group (UPCG) announces today it has acquired UK theatrical rights for box office smash-hit and double TONY award-winning, SIX the Musical Live! The performance, filmed at London’s Vaudeville Theatre, features the Original Queens returning to reprise their roles and will release widely in cinemas via Universal Pictures (UK) on 6 April.
Little Shop of Horrors
Staging a classic is not an easy task. It comes with the expectation of novelty, of bringing to light another angle, to be edgy, to say something new about the themes or the issues. The Edinburgh University Savoy Opera Group’s Little Shop of Horrors takes Alan Menken and Howard Ashman’s musical is an incredible show on its own merits, but we can't help feel that there are some missed opportunities here. Tom Beazley and Amy Stinton have created a very gritty show that is fully focused on its critique of the American Dream, but we are really left to make our own connections to how these ideas manifest in the present day ourselves.
